About Matt

I was born and raised in Columbus, Indiana, graduating from Columbus East High School in 2000.  I attended Purdue University, originally majoring in Agricultural Economics, but later switched to Aeronautical Technology where I would graduate in 2006 with a Bachelor’s degree.

While at Purdue, I met Renell Calloway of the Macy area.  We married in August of 2003, and welcomed our first son Marshall in 2005, and our daughter Alexa in 2006.  After graduating in December of 2006, we moved to the Macy area and lived in Miami County for several years, eventually welcoming our third child Kane (2008).  In March of 2013, we purchased a house near Talma and lived there until June of 2015 when we moved to our current home near Kewanna.  A few months after moving, we completed our family when our youngest son Deacon was born in late 2015.

My Professional Background

My work career has been anything but typical. After a short stint working for an airline at Fort Wayne International Airport, I started working for a business that restored antique aircraft in Huntington. When that business closed its doors, I was fortunate to be hired by Air Methods Corporation, where I was contracted to perform maintenance on the Parkview Samaritan helicopter in Rochester from 2008 through 2016.

An opportunity for growth presented itself in late 2016, and I accepted a position with Lutheran Air to start their third base in Knox, where I would eventually become the lead mechanic of the program. All good things must come to an end, and when we were informed that there was a very high likelihood of the Lutheran Air program changing companies, I started to look for other opportunities. I applied for and was hired to perform maintenance for South Bend Memorial MedFlight, where I worked until 2022. I am extremely grateful that my aviation experience helped shape the person I became, and for the insight I gained from working with programs that were so closely intertwined with our community.

In August of 2022, I took a leap of faith and applied for a non-aviation job that would give me more home time. I was hired by Garmin International to be a field representative for their recreational vehicle department. I am now responsible for providing support to those companies who use our products, and I also help train and equip any manufacturer who are integrating our products. I am very fortunate to be able to work from home for a company that allows me to be active in my community and present for my children.

It's official from the Party, I will be on the ballot in November! Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I'm here because of you and I will not let you down. I'm not going to rest on my laurels, we're still going to push to November, but please know that I am overwhelmed with the love and support from all of you. Thank you one and all!
