Good evening and happy Sunday! I’m sure most everyone here has heard of the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers, it’s one of my favorite watches. In that miniseries, there is an episode titled “Why We Fight” that is considered the best episode of the series.
The phrase “Why We Fight” can be used as a humble reminder to ourselves on a daily basis to make sure we speak up for what we believe in. We do this whenever we advocate for our children at their school, we do this when we don’t let a bad day get us down because we have people we are accountable to, we do this any time we feel passionate and emboldened no matter what the topic is. This is human nature, it’s healthy, and it is a reminder to ourselves that we can always try to make the world better.
Unless you are actively not paying attention, you are aware that data centers are a very hot topic right now, but that isn’t exactly the focus of what this post is about. I’m talking more about the bigger picture of advocating for our County. “Why We Fight” can be applied to all aspects of life in Fulton County, whether it is protecting our land from entities like data centers, or working together to help make informed decisions that will help shape the County for the better. In this County, we stand on our convictions and don’t give in. We take our neighbors sanctity and wellbeing into consideration and that’s part of what makes this County so great. A radio talk show host I occasionally listen to has a quote that I have remembered from the first time I ever heard it. His quote is “Your right to throw a punch ends where my nose begins.” We fight because we believe in standing up for our neighbors, even when they live on the other side of the County. We fight because the future of this County is too important. We fight because we are unapologetically loyal to something bigger than ourselves.
The “Why We Fight” mentality can be applied to all aspects of life, and is a characteristic that the elected officials of any county should have. I’m hopeful to get my chance. Thanks for your support, I hope everyone has a fantastic week!
